Training 3 Propagation
A day course, at the end of which:
You will understand the basics of budding and grafting and will have propagated up to 12 fruit trees (for you to keep) using rootstocks and propagation wood supplied by prior arrangement.
You need working clothes, a very sharp knife, secateurs and the means to transport your newly propagated trees (for example by standing them in a container of rooting medium). Other materials, lunch and hot drinks are provided.
The safe use of a very sharp knife for propagation is skilful and requires some strength in the hands and arms. You will be required to sign a declaration that you take responsibility for any injury you inflict on yourself.
The course runs on demand in Kent U.K., or by arrangement elsewhere, either in February/March (grafting) or July (budding), once expressions of interest have been received from four people. There are two sessions:
Session 1. The basics of propagation
Materials and equipment
The range of rootstocks, rootstock propagation and quality
Sources of scion wood, techniques of grafting and budding.
Aftercare
Session 2. The practice of propagation
